What Is Deck & Fence Cleaning?
Gray, green or blotchy wood doesn’t mean you need a new deck or fence. We clean wood and composite with the right pressure and solution, so the wood comes back without getting fuzzy or gouged.
Deck and fence cleaning brings wood and composite back to life. We use a wood safe cleaner and low pressure that follows the grain, so the gray, green and black comes off without raising splinters or carving lines into the boards. It’s the right first step before any stain or sealer goes on.
What We Clean
- Wood decks, railings and stairs
- Composite decking like Trex
- Wood, vinyl and privacy fences
- Pergolas, gazebos and playsets
- Prep for staining or sealing
Signs You Need It
- Gray, weathered boards
- Green or black mildew in the shade
- Black spots on composite decking
- Old stain peeling or looking blotchy
Why Deck & Fence Cleaning Matters in East Tennessee
Wood decks and fences in East Tennessee get hit with sun, rain, pollen and shade all year. The sunny parts turn gray, the shady parts turn green, and composite decking grows black mildew spots.
Cleaning makes them look new again and is the only way a stain or sealer will soak in and last. Most folks think they need a new deck or fence when a good cleaning is all it takes.
Wood vs Composite
Pressure treated pine, cedar and other woods are soft, so too much pressure tears up the fibers and leaves the boards fuzzy. We use low pressure, a wood safe cleaner and work with the grain, which gets the gray and green out while keeping the surface smooth for stain.
Composite boards like Trex hold mildew in their textured surface and around the screws. They can take a little more pressure, but they need the right cleaner to get into that texture. Either way, we’ll look at your deck or fence first and tell you what we recommend.
How We Do It, Step by Step
- Check the wood. We look at the type of wood or composite and its condition to pick the right method.
- Apply cleaner. A wood safe cleaner goes on to loosen dirt, mildew and graying.
- Gentle wash. We wash with low pressure, with the grain, so the wood doesn’t get fuzzy or gouged.
- Rinse. Everything gets a thorough rinse, including nearby plants.
- Dry time. We let you know how long to wait before staining or sealing.
What to Expect
- Before we come: close windows and doors, and move cars, grills and patio furniture out of the way if you can.
- Pets: keep them inside until we’re done and things dry.
- Water: make sure the outside spigot works. That’s all we need from you.
- On the day: we text you when we’re on the way and when we’re done, with photos.
- After: everything is rinsed and ready to use the same day.

Deck & Fence Cleaning FAQ
Can pressure washing damage a wood deck?
Too much pressure can. We use low pressure and a cleaner made for wood so it comes back clean without splintering.
How long should I wait to stain after cleaning?
Usually two or three dry days. The wood needs to dry out all the way first.
Do you clean vinyl fences too?
Yes. Vinyl fences clean up great with a soft wash, especially the green stuff on the shady side.
What’s the difference between cleaning wood and composite?
Wood needs the gentlest pressure and a cleaner that won’t harm the fibers. Composite can take a little more, but it grows mildew in the texture, so it needs the right cleaner to get it out.
Do you stain or seal decks?
Our focus is cleaning, which is the most important prep step. Ask us and we can point you in the right direction for staining.
Can you clean a vinyl fence?
Yes. Vinyl fences clean up great with a soft wash, especially the green on the shady side.
Do I need to be home?
Nope. As long as we can get to the outside, the water spigot works and pets are inside, you can be at work. We’ll text you before we start and when we’re done.
Do you use my water?
Usually, yes. We hook up to your outside spigot. A typical job uses about what a few loads of laundry would, so it barely moves your water bill. On well water? Tell us when you book and we’ll plan around it.
What if it rains?
Light rain doesn’t hurt the cleaning at all. If a real storm rolls in we’ll text you and reschedule.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We’re fully licensed and insured for residential and commercial work, and we’re happy to send a certificate of insurance.
